Four Charleston Activities to Get You in the Holiday Spirit

The holiday season is finally upon us, and Charleston is buzzing with holly jolly festivities! No matter how you celebrate in the coming weeks, there are plenty of ways to get involved and spread some cheer with your Charleston community.

We’ve gathered a list of some of the biggest and best events coming up this month. Make sure you put a few of these celebrations on your holiday list!

29th Annual Holiday Festival Of Lights

Holiday lightsTwo million twinkling lights will come to life for this year’s 29th Annual Holiday Festival of Lights in James Island. The most popular holiday event in the area, the festival has brought in over 4 million people! The three-mile long light show takes about 20-30 minutes to complete depending on the number of people in line.

In addition to the light displays, there will be tons of activities for all ages to enjoy. Roast marshmallows over the cozy bonfire, take a ride on the old-fashioned carousel, or pick up a few presents at one of the holiday gift shops!

Holiday Parade of Boats

Fireworks on a waterfront.A trademark tradition of the Lowcountry, the Holiday Parade of Boats is exactly what is sounds like: a classic holiday parade, Charleston-style. The celebration will include a procession of boats along the harbor, each decked out in tons of festive lights. Stop by the viewing docks and watch the boats light up the winter sky with a warm holiday glow!

If you’re interested in making a night of the celebration, consider snagging tickets to the official Holiday Parade of Boats Viewing Party. Ticket holders will watch the parade from the Charleston Maritime Center and enjoy barbecue, a cash bar, and live music.

City of Charleston Holiday Parade

A holiday parade of marching nutcrackers.For a more traditional parade experience, check out the City of Charleston Holiday Parade. With a variety of festive floats, decorated vehicles, live performances, and snazzy marching bands, the parade is a great way to keep the holiday spirit train rolling along.

Bring out your lawn chairs, picnic blankets, and friends and family for this annual Charleston tradition. While we’re crossing our fingers for good weather, don’t forget to bundle up!

Yorktown NYE Countdown

Two people holding sparklersCan you believe it’s almost 2019? The Yorktown NYE Countdown features Charleston’s largest annual ball drop and is an exclusive celebration. While tickets are necessary, attendees will have access to hors d’ouevres, various live performances, and some of the best views of Charleston!

The music will be a mixture of popular local bands and professional DJs playing a variety of genres, from jazz to hip hop. Tickets typically sell out in advance, so make sure you reserve your spot!
