Brrrrr! You know you live in Charleston when 60 degree weather makes you bring out your heavy coat! If you’re searching for something to spice up your wintry life, we have just the thing.
A great way to beat the winter blues, and expand your culinary palate, is by trying new and exciting restaurants! Charleston is a foodie’s dream. There are so many delicious places to eat here, which is why we wanted to take a minute to introduce you to our favorite five.
Try these four awesome Charleston restaurants to warm up your winter!
Two words. Fried. Chicken. You will have the best Southern food of your life at the famed Bertha’s Kitchen! Located in North Charleston, it’s hard to miss this bright blue house.
While here, you have to try the fried chicken. It’s legendary. We also recommend sampling the okra stew (on Saturdays it comes with shrimp!) and the stewed oxtails.
Leon’s Oyster Shop
Did somebody say oysters? Leon’s is the place to go for every kind of oyster imaginable. The oysters are plump, perfectly salted, and available in a number of different ways. Try them baked, char-grilled, or raw!
In addition to oysters, they have incredible chicken! Known for its unique array of seasonings, it’s a dish you’ll want to sample again and again. And don’t even get us started on the scalloped potatoes!
Nana’s Soul Seafood
Small but famous, Nana’s is the place for seafood. Get a little bit of everything when you go, but especially try the snow crab legs, garlic shrimp and scallops, and crab rice. Wash everything down with a pineapple tea—you won’t be disappointed!
Don’t be alarmed at this no-frills hole-in-the-wall restaurant. The food is incredible and you will be back for more.
Ok, so we covered the quintessential hole-in-the-wall restaurants. Let’s move on to the fine dining of Charleston.
For a truly luxurious meal you’ll never forget, you just have to try Zero Restaurant. They offer a stylish menu of jaw-dropping dishes that taste even better than they look. Listen to the recommendation of your waiter, but also be sure to ask for the “donuts” (made of butternut squash and only slightly sweet—these treats are to die for!).
We highly recommend opting for the “long tasting menu.” Buckle in for a night of exceptional, stylish, and mouthwatering fine dining!
Ready to Call Charleston Home?
It’s worth it for the food alone, but there are truly so many reasons to call this amazing city home! We would love to take you on a tour of everything Charleston has to offer.
